Manuel Pablo Maza Miquel

Manuel Pablo Maza Miquel, S.J., was born in Havana, Cuba in 1945, and is a citizen of the Dominican Republic, a country that he has known since 1967. He was admitted to the Company of Jesus in 1962 and ordained as a priest in 1972.
Padre Maza worked in the Domingo Savia Parrish in Los Guandules from 1977 to 1984, and in the Saint Thomas Aquino Seminary for more than six years.
He was a professor of History in the Instituto Filosófico Pedro Francisco Bonó of the Company of Jesus in Santo Domingo from 1987 – 2012, during which time he was also a professor-researcher in the Santo Domingo Campus of the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), an institution which has supported his research.
Since 1988 he has written in Dominican newspapers including, in the last few years, his Sunday section “From the Rooftops” in Hoy and in the Seminary Path. His column in “Cross-Country Pilgrimmage” in the Listín Diario every Tuesday is also quite well-known.
Padre Maza has published five books on religion and society in Cuba in the XIX century, and another ten titles on theological and spiritual subjects. His most well-known publications include a collection of Christmas stories called, “A Belén para Amar y Servir. Cuentos de Navidad para niñas y niños de todos los tamaños” (2002), Amores y Chichiguas, Jóvenes entre montantes y faros, A la hora de escoger carrera. Lo gráfico del mono, cómo escribir un monográfico, Introducción a la Historia de la Iglesia durante las Edades Antigua y Media”, and “Por aquí se va a Belén. Cuentos para ponerse en camino,” December 2013.
After 25 years of work, PUCCMM distinguished Padre Maza with the title of Associate Professor on June 29, 2012.
Since 2012, Padre Maza has been working in PUCMM in Santiago de los Caballeros, where he collaborates on diverse projects of the Archdiocese of Santiago.
He is the religious superior for the Company of Jesus of the Jesuits of the Centro Roberto Bellarmino.

Padre Maza holds a Doctorate in Latin American History from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. (1987), a Bachelors Degree in Fundamental Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (1975), and a Bachelors Degree in Classical Studies from Fordham University in New York (1967).
