Coalición Educación Digna (CED)

Coalición Educación Digna (CED) began in 2010 as the joint effort of a group of more than 200 civil society organizations and activists who sought, through peaceful civic action, compliance with the Ley General de Educación No. 66-97, which since 1997 established that 4% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) be directed to pre-university public education. Armed with yellow umbrellas emblazoned with the slogan “4% para la Educación, ” a social movement began that kept growing to include more individuals and organizations until it became a true civic avalanche. Finally, in 2013, a national budget was approved that designated 4% of GDP to pre-university education. CED, from then on and through distinct instances of social oversight, monitors the efficient and optimal use of the 4% resources to ensure quality public education.
